Local photographer Birgitta Zoutman has been behind the lens for more than a decade. Originally from Delft in The Netherlands, Birgitta has lived in her adopted home of Shrewsbury since the age of 14.
Having loved photos and photography since childhood, and spent every summer holiday leafing through her grandparents’ collections of photo albums. When she moved to England, these photographs became even more poignant as they were her way of holding onto those precious moments.
To Birgitta, a great photograph tells a story about its subject, capturing emotion and genuine moments. The key is to be comfortable, which is hard straight away but its Birgitta’s job to help you get there!
Birgitta started off in Street Photography, and with a love of black and white she photographed life in London, Paris, Birmingham and of course Shrewsbury. She then exhibited the collection in the Shrewsbury Coffeehouse, as well as The Bear Steps Gallery. She soon moved on to reportage and documentary style portraiture before progressing into Wedding Photography.
Her new venture with At Nº11 is to provide her relaxed style of informal portraiture within a studio setting but with an at home feel incorporating natural light and family fun.
